Amazon Return Reason Codes — Free Classifier
Upload your Amazon Returns Report CSV and instantly see why your products come back: six reason categories, top reason codes, worst-performing ASINs, and monthly trends. Your data never leaves your browser.
The six return reason categories
Size & fit issues
"Too small", "runs large", size-chart mismatches. The most fixable return reason: a corrected size table or a "size up" note cuts it fast.
Not as described
Photos or bullets that oversell the product. Aligning images and copy with the real item reduces these returns — and the bad reviews that follow.
Quality & defects
Broken, missing parts, stopped working. This cluster is your supplier-feedback signal: track it by ASIN before it drives your ODR up.
Shipping & fulfillment
Arrived damaged, wrong item sent, crushed boxes. Often a packaging or logistics problem — cheaper to fix than to refund.
Buyer intent
"No longer needed", "ordered by mistake", found a better price. Not your fault — but knowing the share stops you from chasing unfixable returns.
Unrecognized codes
Free-text or site-specific reasons that didn't match the dictionary. Shown honestly, never silently dropped, so nothing hides in the gaps.
This classifier shows what buyers claim — not why it keeps happening.
Cross-validate returns against your negative reviews
“Too small” returns might just be buyer's remorse — until your reviews say “runs small” too. KnowVault's return attribution report cross-checks return reason codes against your negative review themes, ASIN by ASIN, and delivers a prioritized fix-first action list with the estimated recoverable returns for each fix.

What are the Amazon return reason codes?
When a buyer returns an item, Amazon records a reason — standard codes include NO_LONGER_NEEDED, ITEM_DEFECTIVE, NOT_AS_DESCRIBED, WRONG_ITEM_SENT, and BETTER_PRICE_FOUND. FBA reports often carry free-text reasons too. This tool groups all of them into six actionable categories: size & fit, not as described, quality, shipping & fulfillment, buyer intent, and unrecognized.
How do I export a Returns Report from Seller Central?
In Seller Central go to Reports → Fulfillment → Customer Returns (for FBA returns) or Returns → Manage Returns for a request-level report, then download the CSV. The tool reads any CSV with a return-reason column — column mapping is automatic and adjustable.
Is my return data uploaded to your servers?
No. All processing happens in your browser using JavaScript FileReader. Your return CSV never leaves your device — nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared.
Is this return reason classifier really free?
Yes. The classification runs entirely in your browser — no account, no quota, no credit card. The paid report is only for the next level: cross-validating return reasons against your negative reviews to confirm root causes.
What is return reason cross-validation?
Return codes tell you what buyers claimed; negative reviews tell you what they actually experienced. When both point the same way for the same ASIN — e.g. "too small" returns AND "runs small" reviews — you have a confirmed systemic problem worth fixing first. KnowVault's full return attribution report does this cross-check automatically.
